Is it good enough to just be a VB.NET developer?By admin | Comments: 0 | November 10, 2016
Visual Basic (VB) was created by Microsoft with the intention of making it easier for people to program. The first model, which was based on the programming language BASIC (Beginner’s All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code), was introduced in 1991. Due to the lack of Visual Basic’s success VB.NET was introduced in 2002, which has so far proved to be a lot more effective.
“Visual Basic” got its name because of the fact it is an event-driven programming language. Event-driven applications rely on user interactions i.e. user presses keyboard buttons, performs mouse clicks.
Even though VB.NET remains to be the least most popular programming language it is still a good choice for developers to work with and as a result many Windows compatible applications and Windows Apps have been developed.
The question is how you increase your earning potential as a VB.NET developer, developing on Windows compatible applications? Simple! Make yourself available as a contractor, even if you have never done it before!
For now VB.NET (Visual Basic) jobs are safe (not 100% sure this will be the case in 5 years from now), however I would not restrict yourself by something as unimportant as a language. I would recommend learning other languages such as C# as this will definitely broaden your job horizons. Also, learning C# will not be as difficult to learn as someone starting from the beginning as you will already have a good understanding of the .NET framework.
